Cycling routes VAL D'ELSA - the secrets of Val d'elsa

Note: itinerary quite challenging suitable for cycling tourists enough trained: there are very long and steep climbs but the path is a continuous ups and downs from altimetry so nervous as spectacular; the landscape is superb and no busy roads.

Descrizione: starts at Casole d'Elsa following the road to Monteguidi that you will reach after a climb of about 3 km. By Monteguidi descend along the road that goes to cross the River Cecina and begins to climb gently at first, then more decisive toward the village of Montecastelli encroaching so in the province of Pisa. By Montecastelli continue downhill towards Castelnuovo Val di Cecina; After 4 km you leave the road to Castelnuovo to turn left onto a windly for Radicondoli (12 km): before we go down to the bridge on the torrent Lucignano to later reach Radicondoli, delightful medieval village far from major roads situated in an extremely panoramic position. From Radicondoli a fast and pleasant descent (2 km) leads up at a junction where you turn left following signs for Mensano (5,5 km). From here you pedal by following the signs to Casole d'Elsa (8 km): still a descent and the last climb up to the point of departure.

VAL D'ELSA - from the towers of San Gimignano to Radicondoli

Note: itinerary which crosses the entire Val d'Elsa suitable only for cyclists well trained, both on the distance that in difference in altitude; very interesting streets technically able to satisfy even the most demanding cyclists.

Descrizione: from Colle Val d'Elsa you start towards Volterra on S.S. 68 and after about 3 km, in Le Grazie, bend right towards San Gimignano (11 km). From here you do latch toward Castel San Gimignano where you return on the s.s. 68 bowing to the right (towards Volterra) for approximately 3 km until the crossroads on the left to casole d'Elsa that is reached after 10 km. From here you pedal to Monteguidi (6.5 km with final 3 km climb) to descend along the road that goes to cross the River Cecina and begins to climb gently at first, then more decisive toward the village of Montecastelli encroaching so in the province of Pisa. By Montecastelli continue downhill towards Castelnuovo Val di Cecina; After 4 km you leave the road to Castelnuovo to turn left onto the road for Radicondoli (12 km): before we go down to the bridge on the torrent Lucignano to later reach Radicondoli, delightful medieval village far from major roads situated in an extremely panoramic position. From Radicondoli a fast and pleasant descent (2 km) leads up at a junction where you turn left following signs for Mensano (5,5 km) and thereafter casole d'Elsa but before reaching the village, turn right signposted to Colle Val d'Elsa; After 4 km at the t-junction with the s.s. 541 turns left, thereby reaching the point of departure (11.5 km) on cyccable route road that follows the River Elsa.

Note: itinerary focused on switching to medieval villages where it is worth stopping for a visit. The mileage is reduced but the altimetry is joyful with continuous ups and downs.

Descrizione: it starts from the Centre of Colle Va d'Elsa in piazza Arnolfo di Cambio towards San Gimignano. In locality Le Grazie turn right signposted for Borgatello and later to San Gimignano from Pietrafitta to avoid the busiest street that goes directly toward the village. Visited the town of the towers with its giro delle mura you exit in direction of Castel San Gimignano-Volterra. You pedal on a hilly roas where we recommend taking the shortcut turning for San Donato, medieval village with a beautiful Romanesque parish church. Reached the village of Castel San Gimignano bend left up to Colle Val d'Elsa (11.2 km) on the s.s. 68 via Campiglia dei Foci.

VAL D'ELSA - lands of Siena to Monteriggioni

Note: easy itinerary which runs almost entirely on asphalted road on a territory which does not provide special roughness and offers the opportunity to visit two centres of great historical interest as Monteriggioni and Colle Val d'Elsa.

Descrizione: it starts from the main square of the beautiful medieval town of Monteriggioni and, after a sightseeing tour around the city walls, exit Porta Senese. With a short descent, you reach the s.s.2 Cassia and turn right; After about 1 km to the junction you hold the left following indicators for Volterra and Colle Val d'Elsa. You pass the crossroads of Abbadia A Isola, proceeding towards Colle Val d'Elsa situated 9 km from here: the town of Crystal is worth a visit. Then you pedal towards San Gimignano, Volterra and, at the crossroads in loc. Le Grazie, you keep the left following signs for Boscona, then towards Agrestone, street of Quercianella, to then arrive (turning right on the s.s. 541) San Marziale bridge over the River Elsa. Crossing the bridge turn left and then turn right in direction Meagre on dirt road until you reach Strofe (water fountain). You exit Strofe keeping the left following the directions for Castel Pietraia and Abbadia A Isola (2 km) where there is a beautiful pieve of 1000 to visit when open. Continue in direction to Siena until Monteriggioni thereby closing the ring.

Trekking routes Path trekking around San Gimignano this path is long 9.5 km and takes approximately three hours to complete. Start the walk starting from Coop supermarket of San Gimignano. Looking at the supermarket, take the road on the right going towards San Gimignano. After about 200 metres you can choose whether to go to the left or right. Go right and leave the town behind. Follow this road for 2.5 km and finally reach the busy road between San Gimignano and Poggibonsi. Go left and cross the bridge over torrent Terribie, then take the first road on the left: is a short uphill few meters after the bridge. This road passes in the fields, through a small forest and over a vineyard. (1 km) After having reached and passed a beautiful farmhouse take on your right and continue to hike. After a short time, take the road turn left (marked with red and white stripes!). Follow the road left and follow the signs white and red. This road leads after 4 km. in a small town called Casale. In Casale reach a main road to San Gimignano and continue on the left. After walking for 1 km you reach San Gimignano. Walk towards the Center and enter the old town to Port of Matthew. Follow the main road through San Gimignano and reach Porta San Giovanni to be located outside the city again. After Porta San Giovanni take left and reach the stairs on the left. Take the stairs and after 100 meters turn right and return to the starting point from which you began the walk.
